ABC TV is pleased to announce production has begun on the latest comedic offering from Australian writer and performer Chris Lilley.
The six-part half-hour comedy series will air in 2013.
The series is being produced by Princess Pictures and Chris Lilley, the team who brought to life the critically-acclaimed and much-loved series We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High and Angry Boys. The show is a co-production between the ABC in Australia and HBO in the US, with a pre-sale to BBC Three in the UK.
Lilley’s most recent show, Angry Boys, also enjoyed great success on ABC’s iview time-shift platform with 1.4 million1 plays, the highest ever amount of program plays on iview recorded to date. ABC1 Channel Controller, Brendan Dahill, says: “Chris and the Princess Pictures team have consistently proved that they know how to deliver quality content.
ABC1 is proud to once again bring a new Chris Lilley series to air in a new era of TV where audiences consume television in so many different ways, as was demonstrated by the outstanding success Angry Boys enjoyed across multiple platforms.” Series creator and performer Chris Lilley says: “I’ve never been more excited about shooting a show. I really like this one. Can’t wait for fans to see it.”
Princess Pictures producer Laura Waters says: “It’s always a privilege to be able to make these special productions with Chris. Everyone working on the series is thrilled and excited about the vision we are about to bring to life.” Zai Bennett, Controller, BBC Three, says: “BBC Three audiences absolutely love Chris’s comedies. Both Summer Heights High and Angry Boys were incredibly well received and we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next.”
ABC Australia director of Television Kim Dalton has confirmed that Chris Lilley’s new show has been commissioned for 2013! The official announcement stated, “Chris Lilley is back but if we told you any more we would have to kill you” & “you’ll be amazed by the new project”!

To celebrate the release of the new Angry Boys soundtrack, we’ve linked up with Chris Lilley and co to give you a free S.mouse track. You’re welcome.
For those who are fans of the popular series, you’ll be pleased to know that we recently spoken with creator Chris Lilley and S.mouse is one of his favourite characters. So what would (a post-house arrest) S.mouse think about the current state of the music industry? “That’s a tricky one. I don’t know,” laughs Chris via a LONG distance phone call. “I think when I launched that character I wanted to toy with the UK hip hop industry but it’s evolved into heavily being influenced by the US hip hop industry. What is going on with the music industry right now? It just seems like it’s the same thing over and over again. I can imagine an artist like S.mouse popping up now.”
And of the recent audio offering? “I guess the soundtrack evolved as I released it as an iTunes thing and then it won an ARIA [Australian Recording Industry Association] award. It’s like our National music awards [likened to the BRITs], then I started doing little remixes of S.mouse songs and then people started sending me remixes. Then I just compiled them all with the theme music and the score; if you’re a big hardcore fan you get all that and a DVD as well.”
