To celebrate the release of the new Angry Boys soundtrack, we’ve linked up with Chris Lilley and co to give you a free S.mouse track. You’re welcome.
For those who are fans of the popular series, you’ll be pleased to know that we recently spoken with creator Chris Lilley and S.mouse is one of his favourite characters. So what would (a post-house arrest) S.mouse think about the current state of the music industry? “That’s a tricky one. I don’t know,” laughs Chris via a LONG distance phone call. “I think when I launched that character I wanted to toy with the UK hip hop industry but it’s evolved into heavily being influenced by the US hip hop industry. What is going on with the music industry right now? It just seems like it’s the same thing over and over again. I can imagine an artist like S.mouse popping up now.”
And of the recent audio offering? “I guess the soundtrack evolved as I released it as an iTunes thing and then it won an ARIA [Australian Recording Industry Association] award. It’s like our National music awards [likened to the BRITs], then I started doing little remixes of S.mouse songs and then people started sending me remixes. Then I just compiled them all with the theme music and the score; if you’re a big hardcore fan you get all that and a DVD as well.”
